Protection

Faithfulness to God and His commands brings the protection we need against the evil corruption on the earth.

“Then the LORD said to Noah, ‘Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this generation.’” (Genesis 7:1 NASB)

The earth was corrupt, filled with violence and wickedness. Hearts everywhere were filled with evil. The corruption was so widespread that God “was sorry that He had made mankind” (6:6). The only option was to “wipe out mankind” (6:7).

But one person was different. While others were filled with sin, “Noah was a righteous man” (6:9). He obeyed God and did what was right.

Eventually the time came for judgment. The people of earth were to reap what they had sown (Galatians 6:7) and face the consequences of the sin in their lives. But God decided to spare Noah and his family. He provided them with an ark of deliverance. While others lost their lives, Noah’s family was protected.

His life provides a model for us today. Our world, too, is filled with corruption and violence. Evil is everywhere. The hearts of men and women do not seek after God but delight in wickedness.

Because God is holy, He holds all of us to His eternal standards. And when necessary, He sends judgment on individuals and nations.

How do we prepare for times such as these? Our best protection is to obey God, keep His commandments, trust in Him, and keep ourselves free from the sin and corruption in the world. We can be sure that God keeps us in His sight and is prepared to protect and bless those who are faithful to Him.

Reflection Question: How are you protecting your heart from evil today?
